Before You Call About Treatment
To make an addiction treatment search more focused, have the person’s general location, age, substance-use concerns, preferred timing, transportation needs, and desired level of care available. You do not need to know every answer before calling. A qualified treatment provider should complete an individual assessment before recommending medical detoxification, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient care, standard outpatient care, or another service.
If you plan to use private insurance, keep the insurance card nearby. Ask the provider and insurer to confirm network status, prior authorization, deductible, copays, coinsurance, exclusions, and how continued care will be reviewed. If you plan to self-pay, request an itemized written estimate that explains deposits, program charges, medications, laboratory services, transportation, refunds, and costs that may change. Review the insurance and self-pay guide before admission.
Ask for the independent provider’s legal name, exact treatment address, phone number, current license, available services, staffing, and admission criteria. Keep notes about who you spoke with and what still needs to be verified. The location directory and treatment resource library can help organize the search.
Addiction Care is an independent advertising and referral information service, not a treatment provider. Calls may be answered by a third-party contracted call center that can discuss independent options. Read what to expect from a referral service and review the advertising and referral disclaimer. Private insurance and self-pay inquiries are welcome.
If someone may be in immediate danger, call 911. For a mental health or suicide crisis, call or text 988.
